SHELTER-BASED TUTORING & ENRICHMENT

Children and teens in residence at two homeless shelters and the surrounding neighborhoods are provided assistance with homework and creative activities including art, creative writing, photography, music, educational games, cooking and family field trips. Children also learn to participate in community service projects to foster volunteerism. Volunteers create an environment where youth feel welcomed, safe and secure, allowing them to focus on academic skills to increase school success.

Graduates of the after-school program at Alexandria House have the opportunity to participate in our Teen Tutoring Program.

Teen Tutoring Program
Volunteers provide tutoring and life skills opportunities to teens in order to enhance school and personal relationships. The program is designed to expand the teens' interest and their ability to make a strong commitment to their future and build respect for self and others. Through this project, NCJW/LA helps to build the leaders of tomorrow.

Teen Mom Tutoring & Enrichment
Year round, NCJW/LA volunteers assist pregnant Teens and Teen Moms in achieving their academic goals of earning their High School Diploma through one-on-one academic assistance and support. Volunteers also offer lessons in life skills such as resume writing workshops and interviewing techniques.
