The calm reassuring voice of one of our trained paraprofessional volunteer counselors is on the other end of the phone to listen, support and empower callers to express their feelings and fears.

Counselors assist callers in identifying problems as well as options. Mental health professionals on staff are available to support volunteers in effectively assisting callers and provide appropriate resources to help callers manage the challenges in their lives and overcome crisis.

Individuals call the WHW Counseling Talkline with complex and often devastating problems. Isolation, loneliness, poverty, domestic violence, depression and fear are just a few reasons why callers reach out, pick up the phone and ask for help.

Calling the WHW Counseling Talkline is free and available to anyone with access to a telephone. WHW receives an average of 500 calls each month. Assistance is offered in English and Spanish..

If you need help, please call (323) 655-3807 or toll free at (877) 655-3807

Because everyone needs help some of the time.

PARAPROFESSIONAL TALKLINE COUNSELOR TRAINING PROGRAM

The Women Helping Women Counseling Talkline receives hundreds of calls each month. In 20 years, the Talkline has assisted more than 80,000 individuals in need. You, too, can experience what our Talkline Counselors describe as one of the most rewarding volunteer opportunities available. And when you join us, you'll also receive the training you need to meaningfully and effectively give back to our community.

Women Helping Women Services' dynamic 10-week training program is specifically designed for individuals interested in becoming volunteer Talkline Counselors. Adults of all ages and ethnic backgrounds, women and men, are encouraged to apply. Bilingual volunteers with fluency in Russian, Farsi, Hebrew and Spanish are particularly needed.

The training, administered by professionals in the mental health field, covers a full range of counseling topics, including crisis and suicide assessment, domestic violence, cultural sensitivity, child abuse, depression, mental health and immigration issues. Volunteers acquire the counseling skills necessary to provide immediate support as they listen and help empower callers to improve their lives.

Please email whws@ncjwla.org or call 323-852-8515 to find out about upcoming training.
